Employers can face penalties for contacting workers based in Portugal outside of office hours. Employers are also required to compensate their remote employees for their increased energy and internet costs as a result of working from home. Employers are responsible for providing equipment and are legally required to reimburse expenses incurred by their employees for the use and maintenance of their equipment.

Most employers provide a monthly allowance between EUR 40-60 to comply with this requirement in addition to equipment provisions.
